When restaurant interiors are this amazing, who cares about the food?

“It is no longer enough to design spaces,” says Yuna Megre, founder of Megre Interiors. “We have to design experiences, environments, emotions. One look at Megre’s incredible portfolio of restaurant and hotel interiors, and you can see that she is very serious about this philosophy. Based in Moscow and Los Angeles, his company has produced a global range of unforgettable spaces that create unique moods and capture the essence of each brand.

Among the most recent, GATHER, an immersive experience at the Sleep & Eat 2019 event in London. Hosting lounge VIPs and press meetings, the room is designed around a large-scale light installation surrounded by circular seating. A floral print designed expressly for the space covers almost any surface, from floors to curtains. This design won an honorable mention at the iDesign Awards.

At SIXTY, one of the tallest restaurants in Europe, a birch forest stretches from floor to ceiling. Sitting atop the luxurious Federation Tower, the 62nd-floor glass-and-metal restaurant offers 360-degree views of Moscow and a see-through ceiling nearly 40 feet high at its peak. Needless to say, it’s a unique environment made all the more dramatic by a blend of Japanese design influences from the 50s and European design influences from the 60s.

At the Ritz Carlton in Moscow, Megre brings visuals of Italian couture to a conceptual fine-dining restaurant called SARTORIA LAMBERTI. At the heart of the restaurant is a glass enclosure filled with sewing machines, fabric bolts, and actually working mannequins. Each guest receives a handkerchief with his monogram made to order. Images of clothing forms line the walls.

HUMANS is a seafood restaurant in Moscow with an inflated ceiling that aims to create the feeling of being underwater. “When you walk through the door, your eyes are immediately drawn to the walls and ceiling with a dark gray textured mesh that looks like waves,” says the designer. Moss and ferns are encrusted in the walls, and a “river” of blue resin runs through the center of each table.

PPL is another Moscow restaurant located in a trendy neighborhood. Megre explains that “as designers we aspire to create an unusual and trendy space that attracts versatile people, whatever their profession, lifestyle or state of mind. With the help of a unique interior full of air and energy, we have managed to create a lively and vibrant atmosphere of a club and restaurant without underestimating the comfort and cuisine.

At SEIJI, a Japanese restaurant in Moscow run by chef Seiji Kusano, a cloud-like ceiling treatment paired with mirrors makes a small space feel like a big space. “The decorative rice paper ceiling acts like waves or clouds – their rhythm and design defines a new seascape aesthetic,” Megre explains.

YUNOST (which means “youth” in Russian) offers upscale Georgian cuisine overlooking the city of St. Petersburg from the fifth and sixth floors of a shopping mall. Austere lines and a neutral color palette balance eye-catching decorative elements like strands of pearls hanging from the ceiling.

It’s impossible to get bored hanging out at DON’T TELL MAMA, a place in Moscow that’s a restaurant by day and a bar and club by night. Virtually every surface is adorned with original sculptural objects, flamboyant animal print textiles and cloudy mercury glass. The bar alone is covered with 30,000 pieces.

We’re certainly excited to see the enticing designs the company will come up with next.
