Taliban say all business transactions will be done in national currency – world
MOSCOW, September 12. / TASS /. / TASS /. All trade accounts in Afghanistan will be settled in national currency, the alemara_ar (Islamic emirate in Arabic) Twitter account, which positions itself as the official spokesperson for the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan, reported on Sunday.
“All business transactions will be done in Afghan currency. There is no truth to what is published about the use of Pakistani rupees in major business transactions,” the tweet read. It is also added that the Taliban (banned in Russia) will not take any decision that could “harm the material or moral interests of the nation”.
The Pakistani government on Thursday decided to use the Pakistani rupee in transactions with Afghanistan as Kabul faces a shortage of US dollars caused by the freezing of funds allocated by the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank to previous authorities .
The Taliban launched a full-scale operation to regain control of Afghanistan after the United States announced the withdrawal of its military personnel from the country. On August 15, Afghan President Ashraf Ghani resigned and fled the country, as Taliban forces invaded Kabul without encountering resistance. The US military withdrew completely from Afghanistan last week, ending their 20-year presence in the country. On September 6, the radical movement declared that the entire territory of Afghanistan was now under their control and on September 7 unveiled a new interim government composed exclusively of Taliban members.
