Sberbank teaches voice assistants to greet currency trading
The track record of Russian financial giant Sberbank continues to inform the features it adds to voice assistant Salute. Sber’s voice assistant can now exchange currencies when asked on the bank’s mobile app, the first to do so.
The Sberbank Online mobile app displays exchange rates systematically, and users can handle the transformation of rubles into other denominations and vice versa, but the process is sped up by simply asking the virtual assistant Salute, whether or not not set to Sber, Joy or Athena Personality Mode. For example, to get US $ 50, just ask Salute to buy that much, then decide which account to pay and where to put the new money. The AI can understand the names of 11 currencies, all of which are available on the app. The company is already planning to expand the functionality by having the voice assistant track exchange rates and related news to trigger automatic currency purchases based on the exchange rate.
“We are the first Russian bank to have trained its assistants in [currency] exchange, ”Sberbank director Sergei Shirokov said in a statement. “Currency exchange rates are the number one question users ask Athena, Joy or Sber. Of all the skills Salute’s virtual assistants have, this one ranks 8th among the most frequently asked questions by Sber users.
Banker Sber AI
Sber’s has linked its new features to entice people to use its mobile app and purchase the SberPortal smart display and SberBox TV streaming device. Currency trading is low key compared to speaking with Russian President Vladimir Putin at an AI conference hosted by Sber, where he also launched Russia’s first artificial intelligence institute in Moscow. New financial elements of AI have continued to emerge, such as the recent option to move and invest pensions for users with the right type of accounts. The company’s exclusives aren’t just technological, of course. For example, Sber recently struck a deal to offer exclusive Unilever and Pepsico drinks for purchase by voice.
The appeal of voice AI to financial services is not limited to Russia. More recently, Wings Financial Credit Union, Minnesota’s largest credit union, began working with Nuance to add voice AI and voice biometric security to its services. Last year, US Bank launched a voice assistant for its mobile app to allow users to complete their banking requests using conversational language and mimic the experience of talking to a bank teller. And Bank of America saw its existing virtual assistant, Erica, grow in popularity and more often around the same time.
