Land to Russia: NO VACANCY. The Earth hotel is full. | by Peter McClard | March 2022

First, please have some perspective. Carl Sagan said it all in Pale Blue Dot years ago, but it might be good to remember Earth’s starting position: if you were taking a space walk in near orbit and trying to see a DNA molecule in someone’s hand is exactly the same proportion as if you were looking at the Milky Way from above and tried to see Earth! That’s how inconceivably small the whole planet Earth is. And there are billions and billions of known (and even more unknown) galaxies.
On top of that, the Earth is damn old and has been through a LOT. All of human history is only a tiny part of that, even if we trace our ancestry back to frogs or fish. However, over the past two centuries our species has achieved some special things that no other species here has done – we have gone industrial, invented airplanes and rockets, and gone into outer space. only about 60 years ago. It changed everything.
After World War II, that horrible nightmare of a war, we also created the United Nations to create more security checks on our violent nature and to strengthen the bonds between people. Once the internet was invented and air travel became commonplace, the Earth shrunk before our eyes. We all know each other better than before. We share more things like news, music, movies and foods. Almost all of us love each other here on Earth, at least much more than before. Personally, I am in awe of the many cultures of the Earth and the good I have seen in people of all nations. For me, globalization is not about creating a single monoculture, but about celebrating our differences and sharing our common life on that pale blue dot we ALL call home. Of course, there is a coarse and ugly commercial side, but there is also a beautiful sharing and an interdependence and a desire to live in peace together, except that…
Until about 2014, it worked very well. National borders were almost universally agreed upon based on history, culture, language, and geography. Sort of set in stone. And within these borders, people have worked hard to build roads, cities, power and water plants, schools and much more. The Internet allows us to communicate and share between these nations and create stronger social bonds. However, there are very few dangerous and powerful exceptions to all this Kumbayah – military dictators, especially those with nuclear arsenals that can become unstable and put us all in danger.
I like to think of Earth as a beautiful hotel where every nation is a room or a suite if you will and in front of the sign flashes NO VACANCY. In other words, it’s not 1776 with a void, unclaimed (another topic) wild frontier everywhere you looked with opportunities to expand our borders and change the world map again and again, keeping mapmakers busy. No, it’s 2022 and the borders have all but disappeared and the “dibs” part of the story ended years ago. But in 2014, Vladimir Putin, being an insecure man living in a delusional bubble, longed for another era infaded away The story when the map was quite different and Soviet Russia included the lands of many other nations such as Ukraine, Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan and many more. It was a fantasy card in the first place and that is why he immediately returned to the dissolution of the Soviet Empire.
Putin is the guy who already has the biggest room in the hotel, knows the NO VACANCY sign but keeps breaking into other peaceful hotel rooms anyway and kills people in those rooms then crouches in these rooms as if no one noticed or cared. . We were doing. An unpleasant customer and very unwelcome for the other inhabitants of the hotel, to say the least. But, as egregious as that was, in 2022 he decided that wasn’t enough and now he wants the whole wing of the hotel. The other guests don’t! We want our beautiful hotel back and we want you to go back to your room Vlad and stay there.
As I started this is actually a tiny spec of a hotel and we have A LOT of maintenance to do just to keep it running properly so we don’t need an unruly guest who joint stinks. We have more pressing needs such as providing fresh water, sustainable energy and healthy food to customers. We want to enjoy the fucking life! Not only is the power grab immoral and improper, it is totally unnecessary and betrays a lack of imagination and a total failure of diplomacy and statesmanship.
Europe has a terrible violent past where the maps changed almost year by year until one glorious day when all these unique and wonderful cultures and nations said enough and formed the European Union. They had evolved to a new level of community and understanding. That’s the beauty of smallfaction of the Earth that began with the Space Age. Vlad, you missed the memo.
I sincerely hope that the good people of Russia can somehow break through the toxic cloud of misinformation and brainwashing they have been fed by KGB Vlad and see how much better it could be if Russia alone, like herself, would become one of our jewels of land and culture to be shared in peace by all mankind. Be safe Russia! You don’t need Ukraine or any other country to be big. No one is picking you up. We want you! We want to love you. We really do. The majesty of your great expanse across 11 time zones is complete and perfect as is. Get rid of this scourge of one man rule, secret police and isolation from the global community and join the 21st century to help us solve problems together in peace.
If you want to recreate the Russian Empire, do it, but do it the way Europe did, in peace and cooperation, not at the end of a gun barrel. This will only create a permanent hatred and a cycle of violence. Convince your neighbors of your greatness in culture, freedom, stability and reliability and THEN you can invite yourselves to form an economic union as Europe has wisely done. It’s a win-win if done in a modern, diplomatic way with mutual interests as a guide.
The era of tsars and emperors is over. Period. We’re not even close to that now. It’s a bygone era. Realize that and move on. The world is now and forever will be Mind over matter do not strength is good. The timing for Russia couldn’t be worse. We are at an inflection point of the geometric expansion of technology and knowledge in all fields and isolating now as an outcast, no one will trust or share many new discoveries, sciences, cures, techniques and great advances in knowledge with Russia. Russia will be left behind as other nations push forward in AI, automation, space travel, medical miracles, green energy and even defensive weapons far beyond nukes .
Russia, please join the family of nations in peace and become the heroic force for the good that we know you have within you. We miss you.
