AutoCamp launches Field Station, an affordable hotel brand
Calling all outdoor enthusiasts who prefer to sleep indoors: AutoCamp is branching out from its Airstream Glamping Resorts to launch a new lodging brand that will transform existing lodges and motels into affordable base camps across the United States. Field station will open its first location in early 2023 in Moab, Utah, followed by two California hotels in Joshua Tree and Lake Tahoe by 2024.
In addition to traditional king and double queen hotel rooms, Field Station will offer RV parking spaces with access to shared bathrooms and showers, as well as Wi-Fi for those live the van life. Affordability is a key element of this new brand, with nightly rates starting at $159 for rooms and $49 for Van Life spots during off-peak seasons.
Rooms will feature minimalist Scandinavian design and photography by adventure photographer Cliford Mervil. Since these rooms are designed for outdoor enthusiasts, you will find bike racks and enough space to store your equipment. Instead of rolling into a bed for extra guests, portaledges that are typically used as hanging beds by cliff climbers are installed on the walls of some rooms.
Not planning to take your mountain bike or other gear on the plane? In addition to a retail store, on-site rentals from brands such as Outdoor Research and Black Diamond will be available at Field Station hotels. On-site guides are also available to provide fully curated experiences during your stay. But if you’d rather do some DIY, the hotel partners with AllTrails to offer recommendations for trails in the area.
Facilities will include a swimming pool, fire pits, an espresso bar, as well as a gathering place called Gear + Beer where guests can return rented gear and purchase food and drinks after a day of hiking. To integrate the community, weekly programming such as outdoor movies, as well as classes on local indigenous history and survival skills will be open to locals as well as hotel guests.
In 2023, AutoCamp Hospitality Group will also launch four new glamping properties under its original brand near Zion National Park, Texas Hill Country, Asheville and Sequoia National Park. The brand already operates five existing AutoCamp luxury campsites in Joshua Tree, New York’s Catskill Mountains, Yosemite National Park, Russian River in Sonoma County and Cape Cod.
Rooms at Field Station Moab are not yet available for reservation, but you can sign up for more information on the brand’s upcoming launch at fieldstation.com.
