America’s very amusing reviews of Claridge’s favorite royal hotel

Claridge’s is about as fancy as it gets.
Home to Winston Churchill for a time, a favorite haunt of royalty, and sometimes even called “an annex to Buckingham Palace”, how could it not be?
The luxury hotel dates back to 1856 and is surrounded by high-end shops in expensive Mayfair.

All of this makes it a top destination for tourists hoping to see London at its best.
But what do tourists think of the royal family’s favorite hotel when they go there for afternoon tea or take a tour?
Well Joe D from Miami remembered Downton Abbey.
“Think Downton Abbey,” he wrote on Yelp, “the staff are so British, very polite and coldly elegant in efficiency.
“Speak above a whisper with an American accent and expect a few cold looks LOL.”
Oh my God, we wonder how many tutorials Joe got while he was talking over tea time.
Laura A from California also used the term oh-so-British in her review.
“You’re an American in London. You’ve seen all the sights, but there’s one more thing you need to check off your to-do list before you leave Mother Earth: afternoon tea “, she said.
“The experience is as memorable as it is whimsical, and so British.”

Meanwhile, Adrienne G from California used a different vocabulary to describe how posh Claridge’s was, calling it the “shnizz”.
“Beautiful piano music, fancy cars pulling up to unload armfuls of Harrods bags from holiday shoppers and we knew we were in for a shnizz,” she wrote.
While Sophia C from Los Angeles adored luxury and felt quite regal herself:
“All in all…it’s as close to luxury afternoon tea as this girl will ever get…You feel like royalty when you walk into the building and when you see Russian ladies walking around in real mink coats just to powder their noses in the ladies room, um yeah…”
Finally, Kathleen M from California said Claridge’s was unbeatable, even for a seven-year-old.
“Where do I start telling you about the best tea experience of my life? We sat in the dining room at Claridge for three full hours, letting ourselves be drunk and then drunk again. Free refills on food? I don’t mind if I do!
“It was EVERYONE’s favorite part of our trip to London and Paris, and that includes our seven-year-old twin boys, boy and girl, doing a rope obstacle course at Go Ape! in Battersea Park , sailed on boats in Luxembourg Gardens and took a spin on the London Eye.”
