  • It’s only day five of the 2022 Winter Olympics and there have already been multiple complaints.

  • Athletes and officials have spoken out about the poor quality of food inside the Beijing bubble.

  • A hotel manager even called the food served in one of his restaurants “disgusting”.

A hotel manager at the Beijing Winter Olympics called the food at one of his own restaurants “disgusting”, according to CNN.

The website reported on Wednesday that fresh fruit is in short supply at the games, but athletes can drink as much Chinese beer as they can.

There is a rigorous bubble environment in effect at the Olympics, so bringing in food from outside is prohibited as this will breach the security measures in place.

There is a robot-powered restaurant at the games to maximize the effectiveness of social distancing.

However, CNN describes 40-minute waiting periods as the facility has become a haven for people taking selfies and videos to post on their social media pages.

To avoid processed foods and low-quality foods, those inside the Winter Olympic bubble can instead venture to the buffet available at the luxurious Shangri-La Hotel or the restaurant at the Marco Polo Hotel. .

Both locations have so far been free from scathing criticism regarding the quality and quantity of food available to athletes, media and Olympic delegates.

Athletes have already complained about the food

The 2022 Winter Olympics started on February 4 and it didn’t take long before athletes were complaining about the food.

CBS Sports reported German team chief Dirk Schimmelpfennig’s comment that living conditions in the athletes’ hotel were “unreasonable”. Schimmelpfennig claimed the athletes deserved extra food deliveries.

Russian athlete Valeria Vasnetsova posted a sorry food image on an Instagram Story. She said the same thing had been served for breakfast, lunch and dinner, “for five days already”.

According to CBS Sports, Vasnetsova said she was “impossible to eat”, later adding that her “bones were sticking out” after losing “a lot of weight”.

She then added, “I cry every day.”

USA Today also reported on living conditions inside the bubble.

Schimmelpfennig, Vasnetsova and Polish speed skater Maliszewska described “inedible meals”, with less access to training equipment to prepare them for competition, according to USA Today.

The Games will end on February 20.
