3 injured during an altercation, shooting at the Lancaster restaurant; suspect killed
Two men and a woman were injured in a shootout during an altercation at a Lancaster restaurant early Monday, and a man described as the suspect was fatally shot, officials said.
The incident was reported at around 12:10 am along block 42100 of the Sierra Highway. Video of the scene showed a strong police presence around the Culichitown restaurant.
According to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, a person who called 911 told authorities that a man inside the restaurant shot security guards and may still be in inside the premises.
MPs who responded found one of the security guards with a gunshot wound in the upper torso. He told authorities the suspect was still inside.
Another man, an employee, was also outside and had a non-life threatening gunshot wound to his lower torso, officials said.
The deputies tried to contact the suspect but were unable to do so, and authorities began to treat the incident as a barricaded situation. Officials from the Special Enforcement Bureau responded and were able to contact a woman inside before entering, according to the sheriff’s department.
The potential suspect was found with a gunshot wound to the upper torso and was pronounced dead at the scene. He was only described as being 51 years old.
The woman, 43, was also shot during the ordeal and was rescued from the area. His injury was not life threatening either.
A preliminary investigation indicated that there had been a possible altercation inside the restaurant when security guards “responded and became involved” before the shooting, officials said.
The 44-year-old security guard who was shot is in serious condition.
No other details, including what led to the shooting or who shot the suspect, have been disclosed.
